With so many different stories in the news these days of people making millions of dollars from their website or blog, it’s no wonder you ended up on this page!
If you run your own website or blog, then this list should interest you, I am going to cover 15 proven ways to make money with WordPress.
Please Note: You do not need to be using WordPress for the majority of these methods to work, this post was just originally written with WordPress users in mind – If you’re not using WordPress, why not check out this tutorial?
#1 Affiliate Marketing
This is probably one of the most popular methods of making money with your website or blog, especially for beginners as you don’t need to create your own product.
Affiliate Marketing is basically where people allow you to sell their products or services and then share the profits!
You might be surprised by how many companies actually offer “Affiliate Schemes”, just do a quick Google Search for “[Insert Product or Service] + Affiliate Scheme” to see what I mean.
Here are some of the more popular Affiliate Schemes in the online marketing world today:

#2 Create & Sell your own Info Product
Some people seem to be under the impression that you really need to some kind of super hero / expert in order to create your info product.
This just isn’t true, these days it is getting easier and easier to put together your own info product that people will actually want to buy!
It just takes a little research and patience but this will totally pay off in the end if done correctly.
Here is a Great YouTube Video which talks all about creating your own info product to sell online (not mine).
#3 Sell WordPress Sites & Services
Once you get pretty fluent with using WordPress (which will not take long at all) you can actually start selling WordPress Websites and Services to other people, either online or offline.
Most offline business owners do not realise how easy WordPress is to learn and some just don’t really have the time to learn it, this is where you come in.
You can create your own website which details all of the different services you offer and for what price, then it’s just a case of getting people to your site so they can buy your services.
Another great place to check out is the ever popular Flippa.com where you can buy and sell websites for a small sellers fee.
#4 CPA / CPC / PPC Marketing
These different types of marketing are all basically the same, they are just different forms of ads you can display on your website that earn you a small amount of money each time a visitor clicks on them.
CPA = Cost Per Action
CPC = Cost Per Click
PPC – Pay Per Click
Google Adsense is probably the most commonly known, but here are a few other CPA / CPC / PPC Advertising Platforms to help monetize your WordPress site as well:
#5 Privately Sell Banner Space
This is where people pay you to display their Ad Banners on your website or blog. If you are getting decent amounts of traffic there is a lot of money to be made using this method.
There are a few different ways to do this:
- You could charge a monthly fee for placing their banner.
- They could pay you for each click on their banner (CPC).
- If someone buys their product after clicking on the banner they share some of the revenue with you (Affiliate / CPA).
You can find people willing to buy your “Banner Ad Space” over at BuySellAds.com and you can also add a “Sponsor” or “Advertise” page to your site where you outline the costs etc.
Warrior Forum are a perfect example of this method working well, just look at how much they get per banner ad!
#6 Accept Donations
Accepting Donations can be a great way of earning extra money from your website or blog, especially if your are always giving away great content for free.
Now I am not saying you are going to become rich from donations but they can definitely help cover some of your sites costs such as hosting, domain name, images etc.
If you are using WordPress, accepting donations donations directly from your site can be even easier than you think!

#7 Build An Email List
Email Marketing is probably one of the most underrated and highly profitable methods of making money with WordPress.
Some smart online marketers are making over a million dollars a year just from their email list alone!
By building an email list I literally mean getting people to subscribe to your email newsletter, you then make money by selling stuff to the people that subscribe.
There is obviously a bit more to it than that!
For more information on building an email list, I recommend these 2 places:
They will definitely teach you everything you need to know about building an email list and making money from it!
According to WorkFlowMax, Email marketing delivers the highest ROI (return on investment) with about $44 earned for every dollar spent!
#8 Accept Sponsored Posts
Some companies will pay to have you post one of their blog posts on your site. They should create the post specifically for your site and with your visitors in mind.
Usually these posts will be well written and informative so they will also be good content for your site as well as make you some money.
Please Note: You should never feel pressured into posting something you don’t like onto your site, after all – it’s yours.
If you don’t like a post that someone creates for your site, just tell them what you don’t like about it (nicely!) and ask them to change it if they want you to publish it.
There are some companies out there that help connect brands with website owners and bloggers. These companies basically set up sponsored posts for you and take a small cut from the sponsor.
Here are a few examples of such companies (a wide range of different markets):
#9 E-Commerce / Online Store
This is one of the most obvious methods when it comes to making money online using WordPress, but setting up your own online store has never been easier!
In a matter of a few hours you could go from reading this article to selling your own glittery coats for small dogs… if that was your style!
Here are a few great free WordPress plugins that will help get your online store up and running:

#10 Add A “Hire Me” Page
You can add a “Hire Me” page to your website or blog offering your different services. So for example, if you teach people how to do graphic design (like create logos, banners etc) – you could then have a “Hire Me” page where you offer to do it for them, for a price.
This works in a lot of different online “niches” although may not work too well if you run an offline business.
#11 Joint Venture / Teaming Up!
Now I know this isn’t technically a way of making money directly but a “Joint Venture” aka teaming up with another website, blog, YouTube channel etc can be a great way to increase your revenue.
The way this method works is by increasing your audience and your sites traffic, therefore giving you more people to market your products or services to. You just need to find someone who is in the same market as you (or one that compliments yours) and then simply send them a message asking if they would like to team up with you.
Now, not everyone is going to say yes, or even reply – but this method does work!
Here are some common ways that people team up with others:
- Write a blog post for each others blog.
- Create a video for each others YouTube channel.
- Link to each others website.
- Create a product together.
- Co-Host a webinar.
#12 Write An eBook
Now while an eBook is similar to an info product there is one crucial difference, an eBook can cover any topic (including fiction).
You can get your eBook selling on Amazon/Kindle within a matter of few days and with websites like upwork.com, you don’t even need to write it yourself.
There are a LOT of people online making an absolute fortune selling eBooks… and who knows, maybe you will be the next one!
#13 Host Webinars
Hosting Webinars are not only a great way to make money online but they are also VERY effective for building your email list as well which can then make you even more money.
You can either charge people to attend your webinar and make money that way, or else you can make the webinar free to attend but then promote a paid product throughout the webinar (this one is the one I would recommend).
There are a lot of great free WordPress plugins to help you make money with webinars and WordPress, here are just a few of them:
#14 Advertise An Offline Business
Do you run an offline business? If you do, blogging about it can be a great way to bring in enquiries, leads and sales. But did you know you can also make money blogging about other peoples offline businesses?
There are a few ways of doing this:
- You can charge the person running the offline business a fee for you to write a blog post about their business or services (this could be a review, or an outline of what they do etc).
- Banner Ads (see above).
- You can sell “Leads” to offline businesses. So for example, if you had a website about cars – you could collect email addresses from people and sell them to a car insurance company.. or something like that.
Please Note: There are laws regarding selling peoples email addresses, please look into it before implementing this idea. I will not be held responsible if you break the law, I just know that there are people making money online doing this.
#15 Offer Premium Content or Become A Private Membership Site
This is where you would have a specific “members area” with paid content. Usually you would give away free content, and then offer further information on the same topic for a price. You can see a good example of this over on Tuts+ where readers come to see free Photoshop tutorials but then can choose to pay for extras such as Photoshop files and more advanced tutorials.
There are a lot of ways to make money using WordPress other than what I mentioned above, you just need to be creative. This list is just to give a very basic outline of the most popular (working) methods used to make money online today.
Anyway, I really hope your found this post useful!
